The year 2014 is now on the horizon. After a lot of changes in 2013, what will be the predominant challenges and content trends in the coming 12 months?
The internet reflects the world in which it exists; it is constantly changing and evolving. As a result internet marketing and SEO is also a fluctuating environment. Trends emerge and are superseded, and their light, that once burned so brightly, dims, flickers and dies. This is a tough world to inhabit and to stay at the top of the game professionals have to detect changes early on; if something comes out of left field they have to be able to react very quickly.
What might Google do next?
The all-powerful Google is the driving force that initiates major change in the world of content production. The Hummingbird algorithm caught many in the industry by surprise. As a result strategies had to be re-examined and revised to cater for the altered search environment created by Google’s initiative.
Will Google have further surprises for the industry in 2014?
Tailoring services for users of mobile devices is an element that will occupy many professionals over the coming 12 months. The move away from deskbound internet access is one of the most significant changes over the last year. Individuals now prefer to access information, post photographs and interact with friends through Twitter, Facebook and other social media sites of choice via their smartphones and tablets, wherever they may be at the time.
Amongst all this change one overriding fact remains; the importance of high-quality authoritative content on a website cannot be underestimated. Search Engine Journal expressed the opinion: “With widespread adoption of content marketing looming on the horizon, many marketers are wondering what to expect in 2014. Well, if 2013 proved anything, it was that quality content is now the name of the game and that social shares and user engagement are the new benchmarks of a brand’s success.”
A Happy and prosperous New Year to all.
